Voice control (Siri)

The iPhone 4S introduced a new automated voice control system called “Siri” that allows the user to to give different tasks and ask questions to their iPhone, which it can execute and respond to. With Siri, iPhone 4S owners can schedule calendar events, reminders, get directions to restaurants and even search Wikipedia all by voice command.

For example, iPhone commands such as “What is the weather going to be like?” will generate a response such as “The weather is to be cloudy and rainy and drop to 60 degrees today”. These commands can vary greatly, and control almost every section of the phone. The commands given do not have to be specific; and can be used with natural language.

Not only can users talk to the phone, but the phone responds. “What time is it in Paris?” Scott Forstall, Apple’s iOS chief asked during today’s event, according to The New York Times. The phone replied with the time in Paris and showed a clock. “Wake me up at 6 a.m.,” Forstall added. “OK, I’ve set an alarm for 6 a.m. tomorrow,” the phone replied.
